Name: Jon Christensen

Age: 29

Hometown: Valley Springs, SD

Occupation: I am a 3rd year Osteopathic Medical Student

How long have you been a member at Ten Twenty?  Six Months

Tell us about your first day walking through the doors at Ten Twenty.  When I walked through the doors, I immediately got "Licked-to-Death" by Blue and I immediately knew 1020 was going to be a good fit for me.  And then Coach Dana made me run around the building for a "warm-up" which turned out to be a pretty good workout in itself.

What benefits/accomplishments have you seen/had since joining?   For some reason the ass in my pants shrunk, while the waist band became larger???

What are your individual goals?  Emma Stone.

Favorite moment at Ten Twenty so far?  The 2-Year Anniversary party. Hardcore athletes know how to party! I am surprised I did not have to stick an IV in anyone.

What do you enjoy most about the coaching staff at Ten Twenty?  They have an amazing ability to motivate me to bust my ass and get that PR, even when I have worked 12 days straight with 4 hours sleep and my attending tell me that I am the most incompetent, worthless, lazy student they have ever seen.  The 1020 coaches repeatedly remind me that I may not be the smartest, strongest, or fastest athlete, but lazy will never be an accurate adjective used to describe me.

Words of advice for someone interested in getting started?  Invest in a Grip 'n Grab. The textured tips are really beneficial to help pick up dropped objects from the floor.

Tell us something we don’t know about you?   I actually suffer from Raynaud's Phenomenon. This is why I always wear pants and a sweatshirt, yes, even in the summer time.

Favorite WOD? Usually any long chipper WOD.

Least Favorite WOD? AMRAPs. I get bored.  Oh, and thrusters. Or possibly "Coach Taylor's Ab Warm-Ups"  which usually leaves me in the fetal position.

I am really getting tired of Rich Froning always "photoshopping" his head onto my body.

Tell us about your first day walking through the doors at Ten Twenty.  Meghan was making fun of me because I was taking a snapchat of the marquee and sending it to my friends saying “Ready to break all of my bones” (I’m very clumsy).

What benefits/accomplishments have you seen/had since joining?   I would say that my coordination has improved, but the coaches might say otherwise.  In all seriousness, my overall strength and endurance have greatly improved. I have never been athletic and I am surprised every day at what I can do now that I could never do before.

Favorite moment at Ten Twenty so far?  There are so many. From meeting new friends, to PR’s , to really funny group warm ups. I really enjoy every day and I think that the community is a huge part of that.

What do you enjoy most about the coaching staff at Ten Twenty?  Their dedication to seeing everyone succeed and how personable they are. I’ve had coaches on their day off that were just there to work out, stop in the middle of their workout to come over and offer me advice and help. I have dropped in a few other gyms and I would say nothing beats the coaching staff at 1020.

Words of advice for someone interested in getting started?  I would say especially for those who fail to find a consistent gym routine and get burned out to give CrossFit a try. I used to dread going to the gym and I now I dread rest days.

Tell us something we don’t know about you?  Most people at the box don’t know I am a vegetarian.

Favorite WOD? Grace

Least Favorite WOD? Anything with Wall balls.
