How long have you been a member at 1020? August 2015
Tell us about your first day walking through the doors at Ten Twenty: I remember that Blue the dog was there, which I thought was a good sign. I was skeptical of the CrossFit fanatic stereotype, but I saw some familiar faces from school and church and work, so I realized that it was really a bunch of normal people and everybody was really welcoming. After all the pull-ups my first week, I had ice packs on my arms because I couldn't straighten them all the way. Imagine walking around like a T-Rex for a week.
What benefits/accomplishments have you seen/had since joining? I've learned how to kip, do handstand push-ups, skin the cat, climb a rope, and jump rope. I like gymnastics movements, and yes, I just learned how to jump rope.
What are your individual goals? I want to work hard at being functionally fit so I can do cool things like move pianos and do parkour. I also want to not hurt myself.
Favorite moment at 1020 so far? I'm a big fan of the moment when I finish my workout.
What do you enjoy most about the coaching staff at 1020? I like when they've been willing to jump in when I don't have a partner and need help finishing a workout, even when they've already done their work for the day.
Words of advice for someone interested in getting started? Everything can be scaled. Not having done something before is no excuse not to do it now.
Tell us something we don't know about you? Ultimate Frisbee.
Least Favorite WOD? Things with barbells.
