How long have you been a member at 1020? I have been with Ten Twenty since January 2015.
Tell us about your first day walking through the doors at Ten Twenty: I was very nervous my first day at Ten Twenty because I was also new to Contegra. I didn't know anyone and was apprehensive about being able to handle the workouts. Everyone was very nice and made me feel welcome.
What benefits/accomplishments have you seen/had since joining? I had been working out in a regular gym for over a year when I started Ten Twenty. I had seen progress in my endurance but I had not seen any progress in muscle definition. Within 3 months of starting CrossFit, I could see definite muscle definition and increased strength. I continue to see more muscle definition and gain more strength each week. I've amazed myself with what I have been able to do; amount of weight lifted and WOD's completed.
What are your individual goals? My goals for 2016 are to attend a minimum of four classes a week in hopes of mastering double-unders, pull-ups and hand-stand push-ups. And to increase my CrossFit Total to 500lbs.
Favorite moment at 1020 so far? My favorite moment at Ten Twenty so far actually happened recently. I completed The CrossFit Total for the second time and was able to back squat 185 lbs and dead-lift 215 lbs, both personal records for me. I increased both lifts by 80 lbs each. I never imagined at 44 years old I would be able to handle that much weight. I'm proud of that accomplishment.
What do you enjoy most about the coaching staff at 1020? The coaching staff at Ten Twenty is amazing! Everyone has such great personalities and they use their personalities to motivate and encourage the athletes. I personally have pushed myself harder just because a coach was standing there believing I could do it! They also make me feel like I'm part of a family. Everyone, include the other athletes, are always very encouraging and supportive. It's a great feeling.
Words of advice for someone interested in getting started? My advice to anyone interested in starting CrossFit is to jump in and do it! You will never know what you're capable of doing until you try it. I never dreamed I would be doing what I'm doing now but I am and it feels amazing; both physically and mentally!
Tell us something we don't know about you? Something you don't know about me is I've played organized softball since I was seven years old. So I've played for almost 40 years, almost. There was only a few years that I missed playing at all so it's been almost every year since I was seven.
Favorite WOD? I don't remember the names but I really like any WOD that challenges me. Makes me feel like I've worked every muscle in my body by the time I'm done.
Least Favorite WOD? I don't remember the name of it but all I remember is it had a lot of rowing in it. I can vividly remember that WOD was the only time I have come close to vomiting during a WOD. I don't even remember what the other elements of the WOD were but I know we had to row a lot and on top of the other elements it felt like I was going to die. I finished it, without throwing up, but I sure didn't think I would!
